My Hair Is Blue!
Well, not all of it, just in patches and chunks. And given that the rest of my hair is black, it's actually not immediately obvious unless the lighting's really good. And yes, it's on purpose.
I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, fishies are so cute, the way they swim around... if only they were furry so you could pet them, like kitty cats, but then the kitty fish couldn't roam around your place unless you filled it with water, which is so damn inconvenient, so what we really need are anti-gravity kitties with fins... Ooops, that's what I'm thinking... err... I mean that's what somebody else (who's really weird) is thinking. You're probably thinking, so, what the heck is a 30-something Asian guy doing with blue hair?
Well, I'm not really sure. As you might've guessed, blue is definitely my favorite color. Has been ever since I was a kid (and I have one of those contruction-paper posters detailing my favorite things to prove it -- well I don't have it, but I'm sure my mom has it stored away somewhere). And I just love blue and black together (so it thrilled me when the NY Mets changed their colors). I seriously thought about making the banner on this website black with bright blue text, but nixed the idea because black is one of the most overused colors on the web.
Actually, this is not the first time my hair's been blue. It'd been something I'd been meaning to do for a long while, and the main thing that'd been holding it up was that I didn't want to ruin our wedding pictures (we got married in the summer of 2001). So I finally had it dyed professionally later in 2001 (or maybe the beginning of 2002?). Kept it blue for quite a while (about a year, I think).
It was a bit of a hassle, the way blue gets all over the bathtub and the pillowcases and baseball caps and just stays there forever, but it was worth it. It made me feel cooler than that nerd in high school and college that I've been working so hard to distance myself from. I liked it when people noticed, even when it faded to green (I like green, too). My wife helped me rebleach and redye it several times, saving a bit of money at the cost of getting more blue all over the bathroom.
After a while, I just let it lapse. Wasn't a conscious decision, just never got around to redoing it. And then after the start-up company I work for had some revenue issues, I figured it best to leave it undyed in case I needed to interview. Now that the company's doing a bit better, and with our flying down to see the family for Thanksgiving this week, I figured it'd be the perfect time to redye.
As for pictures of the new blue-hairness... well, we'll see (it doesn't show up that well in photos anyway).
